Calgary Fire Department evacuates SW daycare due to damaged gasline

At 1:30 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department was called to Millside Drive SW for a damaged gas line due to excavation. Workers were building a fence and accidentally struck a gas line while digging. Fire crews evacuated 73 children and 13 adults from a nearby daycare and 8 surrounding homes as a precaution. No injuries have been reported as a result of this call. Calgary Transit buses have been brought in to safely shelter and relocate the children. Traffic on Millside Drive SW has been temporarily shut down. ATCO Gas is on scene to shut off and repair the gas line.
