Calgary Fire Department Fights 2 Alarm Fire in Deer Run

Just before 6:00 pm this evening Calgary 911 received reports of smoke and fire coming from the third floor of an apartment complex on Deer Run Boulevard SE and dispatched The Calgary Fire Department (CFD).

Due to the large volume of smoke on arrival and growing fire conditions on the roof of the structure, responding crews called a working fire and a second alarm. Crews began an attack on the fire from both outside and inside the structure while conducting a search and evacuation of the premises. A ladder truck was used to attack the fire from an elevated position and bring the fire under control. Salvage and overhaul work will be ongoing to ensure there is no continued spread of heat and fire in involved areas. Crews will remain throughout the night on firewatch, the CFD Fire Investigator is also on scene working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

Thirty-six occupants in the source building have been evacuated and will be displaced for an undetermined amount of time. CEMA and Red Cross are working with CFD to assess evacuee needs, including reunions with pets at scene. No injuries to citizens have been reported.

Calgary Police Services (CPS) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) were on scene to assist with health and wellness of citizens, firefighters and scene safety for the area. Enmax and ATCO are assisting by controlling the flow of utilities.
