Calgary Fire Crews Fight Riverbend Structure Fire

At approximately 9:20 on Thursday morning, July 6, Calgary 9-1-1  started receiving multiple calls about a structure fire on Riverbend Gate South East. When fire crews arrived on scene in the back alley, fire was consuming a shed and fence, had already spread to the house on the same property as well as the garage next door and was melting the siding of the house  to the east.  Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames on the neigbouring house and continued to concentrate efforts on the property of origin.

All residents escaped safely prior to CFD arrival on scene. Firefighters  also rescued two cats from the basement  of the origin house. One dog from the neighbouring house is missing as he ran off  while his owner was evacuating her home. He is a medium sized dog named Nueka and may be too afraid to come if called.

No injuries were reported as a result of this fire. Damage to the property of origin is extensive.  The house to the east sustained damage to both the garage and the vinyl siding. The neighbour on the west side tried to control the fire with a garden hose however once the flames and heat became too much, he needed to back away for his own safety.

Fire investigators are on the scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire. If anybody has photos or video, especially prior to CFD arrival on scene, please email piofire@calgary.ca

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind citizens that happen upon the scene of a fire (or other serious incidents) before CFD crews arrive, to please move out of the way. Please make room for fire trucks to stage in front of the scene.  During this particular fire, several motorists stopped right in front of the house fire to take photos and video, impeding fire crews ability to stage and do their work quickly and effectively.  We appreciate citizens' cooperation to help firefighters do their job, especially when seconds matter.
