Calgary Fire Department Technical Rescue Team Responds to Two Serious Collisions

At approximately 8:50 on Tuesday morning of May 2, a driver backing out of  their own garage into a back alley,  struck the two car garage of a residence on Huntridge Hill N.E.  The driver was not injured however the collision caused significant structural damage. CFD's Technical Rescue Team (TRT) was called to the scene. They used their specialty tools to provide support by shoring up the garage.  Damage is characterized as extensive.

At 12:40, the Technical Rescue Team was called out again, this time for a pick up truck that had struck two residences in the community of Walden.  The driver drove into the corner of an attached garage, through the garage, out the other side and into the neighbouring garage, finally coming to a stop.  Fire crews including the TRT firefighters assessed the stability of both structures and shored up the buildings. 

Firefighters on scene shut off a natural gas line which was damaged during the collision.  ATCO responded to the scene to clamp the line and start repairs.  Enmax was also called to the scene to assess for any electrical hazards due to the significan damage to both buildings.  No injuries were reported at this incident however the resident of the garage struck first was home at the time of the collision and stated that he felt the house shake.

Both collisions are under investigation.
