Housefire in Inglewood

On October 14th, 2023, at approximately 6:00PM the Calgary Fire Department received a 911 call for a possible house fire in the southeast community of Inglewood.  On arrival at the 2700 block of 16A street SE fire crews encountered a fourplex multifamily dwelling with heavy smoke and flames issuing from the front windows.  Arriving crews met the occupant of the involved home who was suffering from smoke inhalation after self-evacuating.  Crews attacked the fire from the exterior before moving into the interior to quickly bring the fire under control.  Firefighters were able to ensure evacuation of the entire structure and confirm that there were no other occupants in the involved suite.

The fire was held to the room of origin; however, smoke damaged the lower attached unit.  Unfortunately, two of the resident’s cats were found deceased in the involved unit.  The occupant of the involved unit was assessed by CFD crews and EMS for smoke inhalation but was not transported to hospital.

Crews will remain on scene into the night while investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.  Traffic in the area has reopened fully.

The CFD would like to remind citizens about the importance of working smoke alarms and having an evacuation plan for your home and all occupants.
