Calgary Fire Crews Respond to Balcony Fire in the South West

At approximately 6:55 on the morning of Wednesday, May 3, 2023,  Calgary 9-1-1 started receiving multiple calls reporting a fire on the second floor balcony of an apartment  building located at the 1400 block of 37th Street S.W.  The fire quickly grew and ignited materials on the third floor balcony immediately above.  A second alarm was struck for additional resources. Fire crews quickly knocked the fire down, limiting fire and smoke damage to only two suites.  No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

CPS assisted with traffic management and gathering information.

A CFD fire investigator attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.  This fire is not believed to be related to smoking materials. To assist with the investigation, anybody who was in the area that has information, photos or video of the fire, especially prior to CFD arrival on scene is asked to share it  with piofire@calgary.ca

The Calgary Fire Department would like to thank all the callers to 9-1-1  which helped us respond quickly to this fire and limit damage.
