Calgary Fire Crews Respond to House Fire in Cougar Ridge

At approximately 10:40 on Monday morning, April 8, 2024, Calgary fire crews were dispatched to the community of Cougar Ridge for reports of a house fire.  Multiple calls were made to 9-1-1 stating they could see flames coming from the main floor of a single family home.  Upon fire crews' arrival smoke and flames were visible coming form the side of the house.  Nobody was home at the time however there were three dogs, two turtles and  seven chinchillas in the home when the fire broke out.

Firefighters mounted a quick interior attack and quickly brought the fire under control.  Sadly, two of the three dogs and seven chinchillas died as a result of this fire.  One surviving dog  was taken to an emergency vet clinic by Calgary Fire Department personnel for urgent treatment.  The two turtles also survived.

No citizens or firefighters were injured as a result of this fire. The home sustained significant fire damage to the main floor, smoke damage to the main and second floors, and no fire damage to the basement. The fire originated in the kitchen and is not suspicious .   The home did have working smoke alarms.
