Calgary Fire Department Responds to Deadly Residential Fire

At approximately 00:30 on July 26, 2023, Calgary 9-1-1 began receiving multiple calls reporting a house fire in the 2800 block of 41st Street SW.  First arriving fire crews reported heavy smoke from a basement window.  A neighbour that was alerted to the fire, made entry into the home and pulled one patient out to the front lawn and began CPR.  The fire commander on scene reported that two occupants of the home were able to self-evacuate.    Fire crews quickly took over patient care of the individual requiring CPR, as other firefighters began an aggressive interior fire attack while searching for any other occupants.  Unfortunately, another victim was discovered in the basement of the home and was quickly removed to awaiting AHS crews.  We can confirm at this time that two occupants have succumbed to their injuries, while the two other occupants were assessed and released by AHS on scene.  Calgary Fire Department investigators are at the scene looking to determine the origin and cause of the fire.  Calgary Fire would like to remind all Calgarians to plan at least two different escape routes out of your home in case of a fire and have a meeting place to confirm all members are out.  In addition, ensure you have working smoke alarms on all levels of your home.  If anyone has photos or video of the fire prior to the arrival of the Calgary Fire Department, please submit them to piofire@calgary.ca
