Calgary Fire Crews Respond to Structure Fire in Castleridge

At approximately 1:45 pm this afternoon, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to reports of a structure fire in the 100 block of Castleglen Way NE. Two additional fire engines were dispatched to ensure adequate resources on scene.

Upon arrival, fire crews faced significant smoke and flame from an exterior side and roof of a 2-story residential home. Flames were extending to a second home as firefighters arrived. Crews quickly initiated an aggressive interior offensive attack and search on the source home. One water tower was also set up to assist in fire attack. Fire extended to an exposure home resulting in considerable damage to both structures.

A total of 6 residents self-evacuated prior to CFD’s arrival. One dog and one cat were accounted for. Two people were assessed by AHS with unknown injuries and released. Two firefighters were also assessed by AHS, with one released and one requiring transport to hospital for a minor lower leg injury. The residents will be displaced from both homes for an undetermined amount of time.

CPS assisted and provided traffic and crowd control at scene. Atco and Enmax were dispatched and ensured there were no hazards relating to services.

Fire crews including a fire investigator will remain on scene to ensure there is no fire extension and to confirm extinguishment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
