Apartment Fire in Coventry Hills

On April 10th, 2024, at approximately 11:15PM, the Calgary Fire Department responded to alarms in the 100 Block of Country Village Park in the northeast community of Coventry Hills.  On arrival, fire crews found a four-story multi-family apartment building with smoke showing from a second-floor window.  On entry, firefighters encountered heavy smoke in the unit of origin and operating fire sprinklers.  Fire crews searched the apartment and located one occupant in a bedroom with serious burn injuries.  Firefighters removed the occupant from the building and determined that the mid-thirties male was the only occupant in the apartment at the time of the fire.  Fire fighters evacuated the entire apartment block of over sixty units and ensured that the fire was completely extinguished.

Damage was significant in the apartment of origin from both smoke and water.  The apartment below received water damage and the adjacent apartments had minor smoke damage.  Occupants were permitted to reenter undamaged apartments.

The injured occupant was transported to hospital by EMS.  Firefighters will remain on scene for several hours assisting investigators and securing the scene.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

While this incident was being actioned, a second incident occurred in the 14000 block of Bannister Road southeast.  Crews were called to a fire in a detached storage structure in the southeast community of Midnapore.  Firefighters arrived to find smoke in a storage building and upon forcing entry extinguished a contents fire.  Search of the structure revealed that it was unoccupied.  The cause of this fire is also under investigation.
