Calgary Fire Crews Fight Two Alarm Industrial Fire in South East

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Friday,  June 30, Calgary 9-1-1 started receiving calls regarding an industrial fire in a large warehouse located at the 9600 block of 48 Street S.E. When fire crews arrived on scene, they found heavy dark smoke coming from multiple openings in the large industrial building. Due to the large volume of smoke, the fire was upgraded to a second alarm for additional resources. Approximately 20 employees would usually be working at that location however staffing was drastically reduced due to the long weekend.  Employees on site safely evacuated the building and no injuries have been reported.

Enmax and ATCO were called to the scene to deal with the utilities and firefighters quickly got the fire under control shortly after 9:30 a.m. Damage to the building is extensive and several semi trucks parked inside also sustained severe damage or were destroyed.  The building will need significant repairs before the businesses can reoccupy the space.  Calgary Fire investigators are at the scene to determine the exact origin and cause of this fire.
