Fatality Fire in Evanston

On January 25th, 2024, at approximately 9:30 PM the Calgary Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a house fire in the northwest community of Evanston.  On arrival, crews found a single family detached residential property with smoke and flames issuing from basement windows.  Crews immediately attacked the fire from the outside, bringing the fire quickly under control.  Firefighters simultaneously entered the structure to search for occupants as there were reports of a possible resident in the basement of the home.  The firefighters searching immediately found one male occupant in the basement and determined that unfortunately the occupant was deceased.  No other occupants were in the home at the time of the fire.

Fire crews were on scene for several hours through the night assisting investigators.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Calgary Fire Department and Calgary Police Service.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind all citizens of the importance of working smoke alarms and ensuring that all occupants have an escape plan in the event of a fire or emergency.
