Calgary Fire Department Responds to House Fire in Southwood

At approximately 5 pm this afternoon Calgary fire crews were called to a structure fire in the 700 block of Seymour Avenue SW. Smoke was visible coming from the house when firefighters arrived on the scene. Firefighters quickly initiated an interior fire attack and search and were able to knock down and control the fire. When they entered the home one adult male patient was found and removed from the rear of the home while an adult female patient was located and removed from the front of the home. Crews began CPR immediately. Patient care was then transferred to Alberta Health Services (AHS) for continued care and treatment. Reports from AHS at the time of this release confirm that the female patient succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at scene. The male patient was transported to hospital by AHS. No confirmation of male patient status is known to CFD currently.

No other injuries were reported.

Calgary Police Service assisted with area traffic control, while Enmax and Atco were also present to assist with scene safety.

Fire crews including a fire investigator and CPS arson unit will remain on scene throughout the evening to ensure there is no fire extension and to confirm extinguishment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
