Calgary Fire Department Fights Two Alarm Fire in Hillhurst

Shortly after 10:00 this evening Calgary 911 received reports of smoke and fire coming from the roof of a restaurant in the 200 block of 10st NW and dispatched The Calgary Fire Department(CFD).

Due to the large volume of smoke on arrival and growing fire conditions on the roof of the structure, responding crews called a working fire and a second alarm. Crews began an attack on the fire from both inside and outside the structure while conducting a search of the premises. Ladder trucks were used to safely gain access to the roof where firefighting efforts were focused and brought the fire under control. Due to the type of construction, salvage and overhaul work will be ongoing to ensure there is no continued spread of heat in the roof structure. Crews will remain throughout the night on fire watch, the CFD Fire Investigator is also on scene working to determine the origin and cause of this fire.

There were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries to citizens or firefighters have been reported.

Calgary Police Services (CPS) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) were on scene to assist with health and wellness of citizens, firefighters and scene safety for the area. Enmax and ATCO also assisted by controlling the flow of utilities.

The Calgary Fire Department  would like to remind citizens that have photos, video or information regarding this fire, especially prior to CFD arrival on scene, to please email piofire@calgary.ca
