The Calgary Fire Department Responds to South East House Fire

At approximately 6:30 this evening the Calgary Fire Department responded to Diamond Bay SE for reports of alarm bells ringing.  Upon arrival, fire crews found a two story with no outward indications of smoke or fire.  Upon further investigation, fire crews encountered thick black smoke contained within the structure.  Firefighters ventilated the home, then entered and quickly extinguished the blaze, confining the fire damage to a single room.  Firefighters interviewed neighbors who stated that the family of six, who occupy the home, had gone away for the weekend.  CPS has since contacted the family and notified them of the fire.  The main floor of the house suffered significant smoke damage and it is unlikely that the family will be back in the home until repairs have been completed.  Firefighters believe that a smoke detector, connected to a monitored alarm system, provided early notification of the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.  Traffic in the area is currently unaffected.
