Calgary Fire Crews Respond to Multiple House Fires

At approximately 8:25 pm on April 29th, 2023, Calgary 9-1-1 began receiving multiple calls reporting a house on fire on Huntstrom Road NE.   The first arriving fire apparatus reported heavy smoke and flames visible from numerous blocks away.  Once on scene, crews immediately began an aggressive fire attack on the home to bring the fire under control and began a search for any occupants.  At the height of the fire, 14 apparatus were on scene.  The source home sustained substantial fire damage and an adjacent occupancy suffered damage to the exterior siding.  The sole occupant of the source home evacuated and was not injured.  AHS EMS, Calgary Police, and Enmax all assisted.

While crews were working at the house fire in Huntington Hills, a second building fire was reported in the 7000 block of Ranchero Rd NW.  First arriving crews at the second event reported a working fire in a multifamily occupancy and quickly brought the fire under control.  The fire damaged the outside of the structure and breached the building through a second story window.  Crews were able to quickly evacuate occupants from attached units and a single occupant from the source unit escaped without injury.

Investigators from the Calgary Fire Department are on scene presently at both locations, working to determine the origin and cause of the fires.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind all Calgarians of the importance of having and practicing an escape plan if your home is on fire.  In addition, the CFD would like to stress the importance of having working smoke alarms on all levels of your home as well as inside each bedroom and to ensure they are checked regularly.
