Calgary Fire Department fights vehicle fire on Citadel Meadow GV NW

At approximately 4:45 this afternoon, 9-1-1 received calls reporting a vehicle fire. The vehicle, a van, was parked in front of a house located at the 100 block of Citadel Meadow Grove NW.

Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a fully involved camper van with flames impinging on the front of the garage. Firefighters quickly gained control of the fire and protected the attached garage from further damage.

There were three occupants in the home at the time of the fire. All three people safely exited the home. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. One of the residents acted quickly and closed the overhead door to the garage and thus stopped more fire from entering the main area of the garage. Had the garage door not been closed when it was, damage to the house would have been much greater.

A Calgary Fire Department fire investigator is on scene to determine the exact cause of the fire. CPS and EMS were also on scene to assist.

Damage to the vehicle and to the exterior of the garage are quite extensive. Fire crews will remain on scene to monitor the conditions, check for hot spots and secure the property.
