Calgary Fire Department fights house fire in Bankview

At approximately 5:00 am this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 2000 block of 23 Ave. SW. with reports of a house fire. Fire crews arrived and upon their investigation found the home to be filled with smoke and that the residents had safely self evacuated.

Fire crews made entry and found fire in the basement of the home and fire on the main floor. After quickly extinguishing the fires crews then began a thorough search of the home and checked for fire spread. Firefighting efforts were more difficult due to the extremely cold temperature. The fire damage to the home was extensive.

The Calgary Fire Department Investigator is on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

The two female residents were transferred to an area hospital by EMS and treated for exposure from the smoke and the cold. Calgary Police Services were also on scene assisting with safety and continuity.
