Calgary Fire Department extinguishes basement fire in Ogden

Just before 2:00 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a townhouse complex at the 2700 block of 76 AV SE for reports of smoke in the building. Investigating crews, while looking through the window of an unoccupied suite, noticed visible smoke. The suite was entered and a fire was located in the basement laundry room and extinguished. The unit was searched for occupants but no one was home at the time of the fire. The unit sustained minor fire damage but the smoke damage was significant. No other units were affected. A mother and her two children will be temporarily displaced while repairs on the damaged unit are completed. Thankfully an alert neighbor, who could hear a activated alarm and smelled smoke, called 911. A fire investigator is currently on scene. Traffic in the area is unaffected at this time.
