Calgary Fire Crews Quickly Knock Down Fire in Penbrooke Meadows

At approximately 4:50 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Penbrooke Close SE. Upon arrival, fire crews were met with smoke and visible flames from the front of the house. Firefighters initiated a transitional fire attack whereby fire attack crews knocked down the flames from outside the structure before making entry into the house. Upon entering the single family home, crews knocked down the remaining flames while conducting a primary search. High capacity fans were used to remove lingering smoke from the structure. The lone occupant self-evacuated prior to CFD arrival on scene. Enmax and ATCO were called to the incident to shut down power and gas to the house to allow for safer firefighting operations. Calgary Police Service also provided assistance with traffic control to the area. No injuries were reported at the incident. Fire crews remain on scene conducting salvage and overhaul operations. The Fire investigator is also on scene, but the cause of the fire has not been determined as yet.
