Calgary fire crews battle wind fueled two alarm fire

This afternoon, shortly after 3:30, the Calgary Fire Department was dispatched to the 7000 block of Edgemont Drive NW for reports of a house fire. First arriving crews were met with a well developed fire in a two storey, single family residence.

Firefighting efforts were hampered by a strong westerly chinook wind that was aiding in the spread of the fire. Due to the aggressive tactics of fire command, the fire was confined to the structure of origin with the adjacent homes suffering only superficial heat damage.

No one was at home at the time. As a safety precaution, the adjacent homes as well as those directly in the path of the smoke were evacuated.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and there were no reports of injuries.
