Vehicle plunges into water

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate events that led up to a vehicle plunging into a pond in a residential area in the northeast.

At approximately 10 p.m., yesterday, Friday, July 31, 2015, a Dodge Caravan was traveling westbound on Saddlehorn Drive N.E. As it approached Saddleridge Drive, it failed to turn with the road and continued straight, launching off the road and traveling into a pond.

Bystanders entered the water in an attempt to pull the occupant, a man in his 20s, out of the vehicle, but were not able to do so. Divers from the Calgary Fire Department recovered the man from the vehicle. He was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

It is believed the man was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Speed is considered a factor. The exact circumstances that led up to the incident are still under investigation.

No further details are available at this time.
