On Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, at around 3:25 a.m., police responded to reports of a stabbing outside of a residence in the 200 block of Falwood Way N.E.

Upon arrival, officers located one man suffering from injuries consistent with stab wounds. He was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition and has since been upgraded to stable condition.

It is believed the victim and suspect, who were known to one another, became involved in a verbal confrontation outside the residence that escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in one person being stabbed.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival.

A short time later, officers located the suspect and took him into custody.

As a result, Saladine Ahimed ALYE, 21, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault. He remains in custody.

While it is believed the stabbing was a targeted incident, any act of violence in our city is deeply concerning and is taken very seriously.

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, at 1:10 p.m., a pick-up truck and trailer were parked on the right shoulder of the northbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail, south of 17 Avenue S.E.

The driver, a 70-year-old man, was outside, alongside the truck and trailer, and beside Deerfoot Trail.

At the same time, another northbound truck towing a trailer crossed into the shoulder, striking the parked vehicles and the man, who died at the scene.

The driver of the second truck, a man in his 30s, was not hurt and remained at the scene.

This is the eighth pedestrian killed in Calgary this year, and the 31^st traffic fatality in 2026.

The review was undertaken internally to identify lessons learned, recognize what worked well and recommend practical improvements for future missing-person investigations, major searches and other prolonged critical incidents. It does not assess the performance of individual employees or partners, nor does it reinvestigate the circumstances of Parker's disappearance.

The search for Parker became the largest missing-person response in CPS history, involving a sustained, multi-agency operation, extensive community participation and significant investigative, search, technological and communications resources. The review found that members, partner agencies, volunteers and community members demonstrated extraordinary commitment throughout the response while also identifying opportunities to strengthen organizational systems and processes for future incidents.

The review found a number of significant strengths across the response, including:

• Investigation-led search management
• Public awareness and community engagement
• Technology and digital evidence capabilities
• Strong partnerships and interagency collaboration
• The professionalism, compassion and adaptability demonstrated by members and partners throughout the response

The review also identified opportunities to strengthen organizational systems related to:

• Scalable resourcing and operational sustainability
• Command integration and incident management
• Tip, task and canvass management
• Public alerting and partnership frameworks
• Technology readiness and scalability
• Member wellness and operational resilience

One of the key findings involved the unprecedented volume of information received during the investigation. The response generated approximately 1,000 formal investigative tips, more than 90,000 direct social media messages, thousands of emails and approximately 10 terabytes of CCTV footage. The review found that while this information provided significant investigative value, existing systems were not designed to easily manage information at that scale during a prolonged critical incident.

The review found that additional capacity and stronger organizational systems would have helped the CPS receive, assess, assign and track the extraordinary volume of information more efficiently. It does not conclude that different resources, systems or processes would have changed the outcome. Rather, it identifies opportunities to improve future responses through better coordination, continuity, information management and operational planning.

The review also acknowledges the provincial review on alerting is underway and the recent findings released by The City related to the initial 9-1-1 response. The CPS recognizes and respects The City's review process and responsibilities. The CPS review examined the police response, including investigations, search operations, public engagement, communications, technology and partnerships. It identifies Calgary 9-1-1 as an essential partner in future policy development, training, information sharing, tip management and major incident planning.

Formal recommendations were identified across investigations, search management, incident command, strategic communications, partnerships and public alerting, tip management, technology and member wellness. These recommendations will inform future policy development, training, exercises, technology investments and operational planning.

We recognize that renewed discussion of this case may be difficult for Parker's family, members involved in the response and many others in our community. The release of these key themes is intended to support transparency, accountability and continuous improvement while honouring the collective effort invested in the search for Parker.

Key themes from the review:

Extraordinary commitment from members and partners

Members worked prolonged hours, volunteered outside their regular duties and remained focused on locating Parker and supporting his family. The review found that investigators, search managers, operational commanders, support staff and partners demonstrated extraordinary professionalism and determination. More than 800 searcher deployments were contributed during the response, with personnel from across the CPS and numerous partner agencies stepping in to support investigative, search, operational and community engagement efforts. The review repeatedly notes that many successes were achieved because of the commitment and adaptability of people across the organization.

Scalable resourcing and operational sustainability

The response tested the CPS' ability to sustain staffing, preserve knowledge, relieve personnel and coordinate resources over an extended period. As the investigation grew more complex, maintaining continuity became increasingly important. The review found that key personnel developed extensive knowledge that was difficult to transfer between shifts or personnel rotations and that many support functions were scaled up through individual initiative rather than formal surge plans. The review recommends a more formal and scalable approach to investigative staffing, relief planning, knowledge transfer, resource generation and operational continuity during prolonged critical incidents.

Investigation-led search management

The review found that search operations were most effective when guided by current investigative information and when search findings were continuously fed back into the investigation. Search managers, investigators, geomatics specialists and partner agencies worked together to adjust priorities as new information emerged, rather than relying solely on traditional search practices. The review reinforces the importance of maintaining a close connection between investigative and search functions and recommends updates to policy, training, documentation and governance to align with current standards and emerging best practices.

Clearer command integration

As the response evolved, additional planning, logistics and resource coordination functions were introduced to support the investigation and search effort. The review found that these functions provided significant value, but that roles, responsibilities and activation thresholds were not always clearly understood across all groups involved in the response. It recommends greater clarity around how investigators, search management, the Real Time Operations Centre, Major Events and Emergency Management and incident-management functions work together during prolonged critical incidents, supported by policy updates, training and exercises.

Communications as an operational function

The review found that communications became much more than a public information function. Media engagement, public appeals, social media content, community outreach and family communications directly influenced investigative outcomes by generating leads, encouraging evidence submissions, directing public action and countering misinformation. Communications professionals also managed significant volumes of public engagement throughout the response. As a result, the review recommends embedding Strategic Communications further within major-incident command structures and ensuring communications capacity is considered when planning for large-scale public engagement campaigns.

Partnerships and public alerting

The response relied heavily on partnerships with government agencies, search-and-rescue organizations, community partners, the Missing Children Society of Canada and members of the public. Public awareness efforts, including the Alberta Emergency Alert, MCSC Rescu platform, extensive media coverage and social media outreach, helped expand awareness of Parker's disappearance far beyond Calgary. The review found these partnerships and alerting tools generated significant public participation and investigative information, while also creating substantial operational demands. It recommends clearer alerting frameworks, a more formalized relationship with MCSC and continued CPS involvement in discussions around future alerting tools for vulnerable missing persons.

Centralized tip, task and canvass management

The review found that one of the greatest challenges was not generating information, but managing the unprecedented volume of information received. Approximately 1,000 formal investigative tips, more than 90,000 direct social media messages, thousands of emails and significant volumes of digital evidence were received through multiple intake channels. Investigators often had to reconcile duplicate information, determine ownership and verify follow-up across separate systems. The review recommends a centralized tip-management system, consolidated canvass tracking, clear ownership and stronger information-sharing standards to improve coordination and reduce duplication during future major incidents.

Technology as a core operational capability

Technology played a critical role throughout the response and significantly expanded what was operationally possible. Mapping tools, video analytics software, drones, digital evidence platforms and public evidence-submission tools supported evidence collection, information sharing, search coordination and investigative decision-making. However, the review found that supporting infrastructure, server capacity, licensing models, technical support and trained-user availability were strained by the scale of demand. It recommends additional investment in technology readiness, training and scalability to support future major incidents.

Member wellness

The review recognizes member wellness as an operational-readiness issue rather than solely an individual responsibility. The sustained nature of the response exposed members to long hours, high workloads, emotionally difficult circumstances and intense public scrutiny. While wellness supports were made available, the review found that future major incidents would benefit from wellness being formally integrated into planning, operations and demobilization processes from the outset. Recommendations include proactive outreach, clear wellness activation processes and stronger coordination between operational and wellness teams during prolonged critical incidents.

As we continue to gather evidence around this incident, it is believed that several passengers may have left the scene prior to speaking with police. We are asking anyone that was a passenger on either of the involved buses to contact the Calgary Police Service Traffic Section at 403-428-4000 or the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.

“It is imperative that we talk to everyone who may have information that could progress our investigation,” says Staff Sgt. Andy Woodward of the CPS Traffic Section. “We believe that several passengers likely left the scene following the collision without knowing that investigators would like to hear their witness accounts.”

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at approximately 9 p.m., it is believed three suspects entered Carrie’s VIP Body Care, located at #7A, 2016 25 Ave. N.E., one of which was armed with a firearm.

At the time, those inside the business hid in a back room, called police, and did not interact with the suspects. The suspects fled in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee believed to be stolen.

Later that evening, at approximately 10:20 p.m., it is believed the same three suspects entered Bud Mart, located at 20 Copperpond Passage S.E., once again armed with a firearm.

The suspects threatened and assaulted an employee and a customer before fleeing the business with cannabis products and cash.

Police were contacted and launched an investigation.

On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, police located the Jeep Grand Cherokee believed to be involved in the robberies in the southwest community of Woodbine. Investigators located evidence inside the vehicle and were able to identify a suspect.

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, police located and arrested the suspect at a residence located in Saddle Ridge. On Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, a search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence and officers seized:

·         A cellphone

·         A loaded handgun

·         Ammunition

As a result, a 17-year-old male is charged with:

·         Three counts of failure to comply

·         One count of possession of stolen property over $5,000

·         One count of pointing a firearm

·         Two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

·         Two counts of disguise with intent

·         Two counts of robbery with a restricted or prohibited firearm

·         Further charges are pending

He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026.

The youth cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police are also looking for the public’s help to identify the remaining two suspects who are believed to be involved in the robberies.

The first suspect is described as man, approximately 18 to 20 years old. He was last seen wearing a face mask, a black sweatsuit, black gloves with a white pattern and black running shoes.

The second suspect is described as male, approximately 16 to 18 years old. He was last seen wearing a face mask, a black sweatsuit and black running shoes.

Due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, images showing a youth’s face cannot be released. However, an image showing the youth from the side, including the clothing he was wearing at the time of the incident, is available.

On Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, at around 1 a.m., officers were called to the Southland CTrain Station parking lot, located at 10158 Sacramento Dr. S.W., after witnesses reported a vulnerable woman in distress who appeared to have been sexually assaulted. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition. Investigators believe the woman did not know the man prior to the attack. 

On the night of the assault, police responded immediately, conducted extensive local enquiries and collected evidence from the scene. The investigation ultimately led to the suspect's arrest and subsequent charges. 

As a result, Sedat KAYA, 25, is charged with one count of sexual assault. 

KAYA is expected to appear in court on Friday, Nov. 27, 2026.

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate a multi-vehicle collision in northeast Calgary that resulted in three fatalities and left one person with life-altering injuries.

At approximately 1:10 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, a City of Calgary transit bus was travelling northbound in the 800 block of Saddletowne Circle N.E., approaching the intersection of 80 Avenue N.E.

It is believed the bus struck a truck travelling in the same direction. The truck entered an adjacent lane, where it sideswiped a SUV before continuing forward and striking the rear of a box truck.

The bus continued northbound and struck the rear of a sedan, pushing the vehicle through the intersection.

The sedan then travelled toward Saddletowne Circle N.E., where it struck a truck. Both vehicles eventually came to rest.

The bus continued northbound and struck the rear of a second City of Calgary transit bus. Both buses travelled a short distance following the collision before coming to a stop.

During the collision, the natural-gas tanks on the second bus ignited. The second bus continued forward before striking a sedan.

Within seconds, the fire intensified resulting in an explosion and significant fire inside the bus.

Three passengers on the second bus were found deceased. Two have since been identified and their next of kin have been notified. Efforts to identify the third individual remain ongoing.

The driver of the second bus was able to exit the vehicle. The driver of the first bus was transported to hospital with life-altering injuries.

The remaining drivers involved in the collision were either uninjured or sustained minor injuries.

As a result of the multi-vehicle collision, 16 people sustained minor injuries, including an officer who is now recovering at home.

At this time, it is too early to determine whether impairment, speed or distraction contributed to the collision. All possible factors remain under investigation.

At this time, we can confirm at least 10 people were injured as a result of the incident. Three people have been declared deceased, one person has sustained life-altering injuries and one has sustained serious injuries.

A Calgary Police Service member has also sustained minor injuries and was transported to hospital.

On Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at 7:30 a.m., a 79-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle as she walked across Riverbend Drive S.E. 

She died at the scene. 

The driver left the area but returned a few hours later and turned himself into police, who launched an investigation. 

On Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, Tristien Alexander CHEESEMAN, 22, of Calgary, was charged with one count of hit and run causing death and one count of driving with an expired license.

CHEESEMAN will next appear in court on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2026.

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, at approximately 4:50 p.m., the victim and her friend were walking in the 200 block of 15 Avenue S.E.

At the time, an unknown woman approached the pair and struck the 92-year-old victim in the face, before fleeing the area on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries.

The victim returned home and contacted police.

Our officers began investigating and identified the suspect believed to be responsible for the assault. It was determined the victim and suspect are not known to one another, and the assault is believed to be unprovoked.

Our Victim Assistance Support Team (VAST) has since offered services and resources to the victim.

A few days later, on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, the suspect was located downtown and arrested.

As a result, Juliana Isabella BODOR, 59, of Calgary, is charged with one count of assault.

She remains in custody and will next appear in court tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026.

“The randomness of this assault against an elderly woman who was out enjoying an afternoon walk is extremely concerning,” says Staff Sgt. Mike Sushelnitsky, of the District 1 General Investigations Unit. “Everyone deserves to feel safe in our city and I am thankful we were able to arrest the person responsible for harming the victim. We continue to work to address public safety in downtown Calgary with a focus on individuals demonstrating unsafe behaviour, or behaviour that leads to people feeling unsafe, through enforcement, strategic patrols and offering compassionate supports.”

At approximately 12:31 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, police responded to reports of an assault and attempted carjacking in the 200 block of Martinvalley Crescent N.E.

It is believed that the suspect approached a man and demanded his vehicle. When the victim refused, the suspect assaulted him using a pair of bolt cutters.

During the assault, the victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital, where he has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Shortly after, it is believed the suspect targeted a second victim in a nearby area and attempted to steal the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The second victim sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

A short time later, officers located and arrested the suspect.

Following the arrest, the suspect appeared to be experiencing a medical episode and was transported to hospital for treatment.

As a result of the investigation, Amine AYMAN ABDELLI, 21, has been charged with:

• Two counts of robbery
• One count of aggravated assault
• Two counts of assault with a weapon
• One count of breach with a release order
• One count of disguise with intent
• One count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
• One count of possession of methamphetamine
• One count of operating a motor vehicle without insurance

In July 2026, we charged a massage therapist with sexual assault in connection with an incident that occurred during a massage appointment in August 2025, at Kinesio Massage Therapy located at 3949 17 Ave. S.W. 

Following the release of that information, investigators received reports from four additional victims alleging similar incidents. 

As a result of the ongoing investigation, on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, investigators executed a search warrant at Kinesio Massage Therapy and arrested the suspect as well as seized cellular phones for forensic analysis. 

Investigators have now charged the suspect with four additional counts of sexual assault. 

Yuriy ZHIVOV, 53, of Calgary, is now charged with a total of five counts of sexual assault. 

ZHIVOV is scheduled to next appear in court on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2026.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, at approximately 11:10 p.m., members of the Calgary Police Service Auto Theft Team observed the suspect to be operating a stolen vehicle in the downtown core. The suspect later attempted to enter a closed parkade located at Fifth Avenue and Third Street S.W., and exited the vehicle, fleeing on foot.

With the help of the Calgary Police Service Canine Unit, HAWCS and District 1 members, the suspect was apprehended.

It is believed the man regularly travelled between Calgary and Edmonton while committing several break and enter offences in nearby communities.

As a result, Matthew Lee GROUETTE, 39, has been charged with:

• One count of possession of stolen property over $5,000
• One count of possession of break and enter tools
• One count of resisting arrest
• One count of operating a motor vehicle without insurance
• Two counts of breaching a release order

GROUETTE is scheduled to next appear in court on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026.

In July 2026, police responded to reports of suspicious activity observed in the community of Braeside. After a three-month-long investigation, police executed a search warrant on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, at a residence located in the 200 block of Brookpark Drive S.W., that resulted in the arrest of two men.

Multiple electronic devices were seized from the residence, along with:

• 553.7 grams of suspected fentanyl (with an approximate street value of $40,000)
• KelTec Sub-2000 rifle with a loaded 25-round prohibited high-capacity magazine
• Springfield XD .45-calibre handgun with a defaced serial number
• 9mm ammunition
• A drug scale
• Suspected drug cutting agent
• $8,165 in Canadian currency and $30 in U.S. currency, believed to be proceeds of crime

 As a result, Mujahid Babekir BABEKIR, 26, and Shane David MCWILLIAM, 57, are each charged with:

• One count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
• One count of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000
• Two counts of careless storage of a firearm
• One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Two counts of unauthorized possession of a restricted or prohibited weapon
• One count of possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
• One count of possession of a restricted firearm knowing possession is unauthorized

At this point in the investigation, it is believed the victim and offender were known to each other and had previous confrontations. The motive behind the stabbing is still unknown.

Following an autopsy completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the victim has been identified as Lionel Fontem ESSEMBIENG, 31, of Calgary.

Newton Kioi NG’ANG’A, 28, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder. He will next appear in court on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026.

“Our officers were the first on scene, arriving within minutes of receiving the call. They immediately provided medical assistance to the victim while simultaneously securing the area, searching for the offender and gathering critical information,” says Deputy Chief Cliff O’Brien. “Although this is not the outcome any of us hoped for, our members’ professionalism and dedication reflect the commitment they bring to keeping Calgarians safe every day. I commend the officers involved for their efforts and continued service to our community.”

This is Calgary’s 15th homicide this year.

In June 2026, our officers were made aware of a suspected drug trafficking operation and an investigation was subsequently launched.  

Investigators quickly identified multiple suspects, and two residences believed to be connected to the drug trafficking operation.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, search warrants were executed at residences located in the 200 block of Riverstone Place S.E., and in the 2800 block of First Street N.W.

As a result, the following was seized:

·         A loaded CZ 9-mm handgun

·         An unloaded Glock 9-mm handgun

·         Approximately 1,275 grams of cocaine with a street value of approximately $62,000

·         137 Gabapentin pills with a street value of approximately $700

·         $4,565 in Canadian currency

·         $100 in U.S. currency

Two suspects were located in one of the residences during the search, and a third suspect was located during a traffic stop. As a result, all three were arrested and charged.

Tariik Rahim, JENNAS, 25, of Calgary, is charged with:  

·         Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition

·         Possession for the purpose of trafficking

·         Proceeds of crime under $5,000

Between February 2021 and June 2023, it is believed the suspects obtained approximately $1 million from multiple victims through several fraudulent schemes.

Investigators believe victims were persuaded to provide money based on claims involving profitable investments, assistance securing admission to prestigious universities and the ability to facilitate Canadian immigration.

As a result, two people have been charged.

Yung-Ho SHANG, who also goes by Adam SHANG, 55, is charged with six counts of fraud over $5,000.

At approximately 7 p.m., yesterday, Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, we were called to the 500 block of Seventh Avenue S.E. for reports of an assault involving a weapon. It is believed two men who were known to each other became involved in a physical altercation, during which one man produced a knife and stabbed the other.  

The victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition and succumbed to his injuries. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival and remains at large.

Between Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026, and Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, it is believed the group unlawfully entered three unoccupied properties that were listed for sale in Whitehorn, causing more than $300,000 in damage. While inside the properties, the youths smashed windows, toilets, sinks, walls and doors. In one of the residences, water was left running, causing significant water damage.

The suspects are described as three youths, believed to be between 10 and 16 years old, who were seen riding a scooter, an electric scooter and a bicycle in the area.

Due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, images of the youths cannot be released; however, blurred images are available below.

Investigators are working to identify the individuals involved and are asking anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.

After being released from custody in July, the offender was soon found to be in violation of release orders after he was observed actively breaking into a construction site and stealing electrical wire earlier this month.

In the evening hours of Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, the offender was seen entering a new-home construction site located in the 4800 block of Voyageur Drive N.W., and operating a motor vehicle contrary to a release order. He was arrested without incident, and officers seized a sawed-off shotgun with a defaced serial number along with ammunition.

The recent two-day operation brought together members of our District 2 Patrol and Patrol Support Teams and the Fugitive Apprehension Sheriff Support Team, FASST. The initiative focused on locating wanted individuals, improving public safety and furthering investigations.

The operation was planned over several weeks, with analytical resources preparing and reviewing approximately 120 information packages before officers were deployed. During the operation, members attended 66 residences throughout Calgary.

The operation resulted in:

• 15 individuals arrested
• 51 warrants executed, including one Canada-wide warrant
• Five criminal charges laid
• 34 investigations

In addition to arrests, investigators gathered information about the possible whereabouts of wanted individuals, verified addresses, developed new investigative leads and updated records to support future enforcement efforts.

It is believed a woman in her 80s was walking through the parking lot with the assistance of a mobility walker when she was struck by a vehicle reversing from a parking stall. The vehicle was being driven by a woman in her 70s.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The driver was not injured.

At this time, it is too early to determine whether impairment, speed or distraction contributed to the collision. All possible factors remain under investigation.

It is believed the vehicle struck the victim, knocking them to the ground. The victim was transported to hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries.

A second victim attempted to enter the moving vehicle to stop it but was knocked down in the process. The second victim suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at approximately 9:28 a.m. it is believed that a male and female entered a business located at 500 17 Avenue S.W. and requested water.  

After being advised that payment was required, the female became disruptive, throwing coffee cups from the counter onto the floor and taking a banana without paying. 

As the employee was attempting to escort the two individuals from the business, the female suspect is believed to have assaulted the employee before fleeing with the male suspect. 

The female suspect is described as between 12 to 18 years old, with medium, dark hair. At the time incident, she was wearing an all-black tracksuit with black shoes. 

The male suspect is described as between 12 to 18 years old. At the time of the incident, he was wearing an all-black tracksuit with a white stripe down the arms, a black hat, black shoes and was carting a longboard.

The checks were conducted from Tuesday, Sept. 15, through Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, in partnership with Sheriff Highway Patrol (SHP), Alberta Transportation Vehicle Safety and Economic Corridors, Airdrie Bylaw, and The City of Calgary.

In that time, a total of 197 vehicles were inspected, with the following results:

·         100 vehicles were found to have critical defects that placed them out of service. (51 per cent)

·         36 vehicles were found to have major defects that required attention. (18 per cent)

·         61 vehicles passed with no critical defects. (31 per cent)

A total of 98 violation tickets were issued. Additionally, one driver was charged for operating a commercial vehicle without a valid license.

Among the most common defects to be found were worn tires, poorly secured cargo, and inadequate brakes.  Additionally, defective headlights, faulty steering systems, and leaking fuel tanks were also found.

“Commercial vehicle drivers perform a critical service for Calgarians, transporting important goods we all rely on,” said Insp. Robert Patterson, with the Calgary Police Traffic Unit. “However, it’s critical that those vehicles meet all legal standards to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.”

The percentage of vehicles placed out of service during this inspection (51 per cent) was slightly higher than during the inspection event that took place in the spring (48 per cent).

The North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria is the pass-fail criteria for inspections and identifies critical violations that can prohibit a motor carrier or driver from operating a commercial motor vehicle for a specified period of time, or until the condition is corrected.

At around 3:55 a.m., today Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, officers responded to reports of a shooting outside a residence in the 0-100 block of Martin Crossing Park N.E.

The suspect is believed to have fled the area in a dark-coloured vehicle.

No injuries were reported and no one is in custody at this time. Early information suggests this was a targeted incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.

On Thursday, July 2, 2026, police were called for reports of a woman in medical distress outside of a restaurant in the 9600 block of Macleod Trail S.W. Witnesses reported that the woman had been using a portable washroom when two men walked up to the washroom and tipped it over with the door toward the pavement, leaving the woman trapped inside. The men then fled.

The witnesses assisted the woman out of the washroom, called police and rendered first aid on the scene. The victim was transported to hospital for exposure to waste matter and toxic chemicals. She has since recovered.

Following an investigation by our Hate Crime Prevention Team, which included reviewing CCTV and speaking with witnesses and the victim, it is believed the men made comments targeting the victim based on gender and ethnicity, and hate-motivation has been deemed a factor in the assault.

As a result, two men were arrested in connection with the incident.

Tyson David CANN, 24, of Calgary, was charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and will next appear in court on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.

Fynn Storm FERRIER, 24, of Kimberley B.C., was charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and will next appear in court on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026.

“This was a degrading and harmful assault that left the victim trapped, injured and in need of medical care,” says Sergeant Chelsea Francois of the Calgary Police Service’s Hate Crime Prevention Team. “Hate-motivated crimes have a deep impact, not only on the person targeted but on the broader community. There is no place for hate in our city. If you see hate, report it.”

Any evidence of hate motivation is considered by the courts after a person is found guilty of the connected crime. If the judge decides during sentencing that hate was a motivation for the offence, it is an aggravating factor that can add to the convicted person’s sentence.

On Friday, Sept. 18, shortly before 6 a.m., someone accessed the personal vehicle of a Public Safety Unit paramedic, which was parked in the 100 block of Covebrook Place, N.E.

The suspect took a bag that contained paramedic equipment and uniforms.

We do not believe the paramedic’s vehicle was targeted, as some of the gear was found discarded nearby, and two people were recorded on CCTV attempting to open several other vehicles around the same time.

The first suspect was wearing a black motocross-type helmet and was carrying a blue cooler and large bag.

The second suspect was wearing a hooded sweater under a two-tone jacket with reflective strips on the wrists and shoulders. They were also carrying a backpack.

On Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, at approximately 11 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on an occupied truck parked outside of the Red Carpet Inn, located at 4635 16 Ave. N.W.

The license plate was not registered to the vehicle and the driver did not have a valid licence. 

Officers determined the vehicle was stolen and arrested the driver. They subsequently searched his hotel room and recovered a loaded AR-15 – style rifle, with the serial number removed, along with several magazines, a suppressor, ammunition and cell phones.

Our Traffic Section is investigating a serious, life-threatening collision involving a school bus and a pedestrian that occurred yesterday afternoon in the southwest community of Somerset.

At approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, a collision involving a school bus and a pedestrian occurred near the intersection of 162 Avenue and Sixth Street S.W. The pedestrian, a woman in her 60s, was transported to hospital as a precaution with what were initially believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. However, her condition has since deteriorated, and she is now in serious, life-threatening condition.

Our Traffic Section continues to investigate.

At this time, it is too early to determine whether impairment, speed or distraction contributed to the collision. All possible factors remain under investigation.

At approximately 12:05 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, a blue Subaru WRX was travelling north on Deerfoot Trail, approaching an unrelated collision scene that had temporarily closed the road. The driver attempted to exit onto 17 Avenue S to avoid the closure, lost control and rolled several times. The vehicle narrowly missed first responders and road crews at the scene who were responding to the earlier collision. Two passengers were ejected.

Two passengers, a 14-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman, were transported to hospital with serious, life-altering injuries. A third passenger, a 23-year-old man, was also transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, was taken into custody and transported to hospital with minor injuries.

The two men and the 14-year-old girl have since been released from hospital. The 19-year-old woman remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.

Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the collision.

After speaking with witnesses, investigators believe several vehicles may have been racing before the collision. Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage from northbound Deerfoot Trail in the moments leading up to the collision to come forward.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

In June 2026, after information from two overdose death investigations identified a suspected drug trafficker, the District Operations Team (DOT) from District 8 launched an investigation.

On Monday, Aug. 31, 2026, investigators arrested the suspect after observing activity consistent with drug trafficking. Officers then executed search warrants at a residence in the 200 block of Autumn Green S.E. in Auburn Bay and a second location in the 14400 block of Mount McKenzie Drive S.E. in McKenzie Lake, believed to be associated with the operation.

While preparing to execute the search warrant at the Auburn Bay residence, a woman was observed removing items from the home. Officers subsequently located evidence believed to be associated with drug trafficking, and she was arrested.

During the execution of the warrants, officers located and seized:

• $46,640 in Canadian currency
• $180 in American currency
• One rifle and two shotguns, along with six magazines and 148 rounds of ammunition
• 1,980.1 grams of cocaine (estimated street value of $19,801)
• 569.7 grams of psilocybin (estimated street value of $11,394)
• 207.7 grams of methamphetamine (estimated street value of $4,154)
• 593 codeine pills (estimated street value of $2,965)
• 127 Adderall pills (estimated street value of $1,270)
• 49 tabs of LSD (estimated street value of $490)
• Seven morphine pills (estimated street value of $140)
• 6,200 contraband cigarettes (estimated street value of $1,543)
• Drug trafficking paraphernalia, including scales, packaging materials and a vacuum sealer
• Electronic devices and documents related to the investigation

Investigators also seized 11 kilograms of an unknown powder, which has been submitted for analysis.

As a result of the investigation, Ryan Allan SINCLAIR, 34, has been charged with:

• 10 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
• One count of fraud over $5,000
• One count of possession of property obtained by crime
• One count of careless storage of a firearm
• One count of unsafe storage of ammunition

Brigitte Conchita PETERS-PALMA, 34, has been charged with:

• Four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

SINCLAIR, who was remanded in custody, and PETERS-PALMA are next scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026.

“This investigation removed a substantial quantity of illicit drugs from our community and disrupted drug trafficking activity,” says District 8 Insp. Darry Midtdal. “The seizure of firearms alongside these drugs highlights the serious public safety risks that can accompany the drug trade. We will continue working to remove dangerous substances from our streets and hold traffickers accountable.”

On Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, at approximately 5 p.m., the woman received a phone call from an unknown man claiming to be from her bank’s “Fraud Department.” The suspect asked the victim to verify several “fraudulent” transactions on her credit card before telling her the card had been frozen to prevent further fraudulent activity.

The suspect then directed the victim to cut up her credit card and place it in an envelope to be picked up by a courier driving a silver Honda CRV.

The victim was contacted again by the suspect, who asked her to confirm her old personal identification number (PIN) and to verify a new PIN for her new card that would later be sent to her in the mail.

The next day, on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, the victim’s credit card had several unverified transactions, totalling $25,824.

The victim contacted her bank directly and determined that her original card had never been frozen. She then contacted police who began investigating.

On Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of 15 Ave. S.W., and seized the following items:

• One black replica pellet handgun
• One conducted energy weapon
• One retractable baton
• Numerous canisters of bear spray
• One backpack full of .22 ammunition
• A device used to access vehicle computer systems and steal cars
• Several pieces of identification, documents and bank cards that are believed to be connected to stolen vehicles and fraudulent activity
• Two stolen motorcycles recovered across the street and believed to be connected to the residence

 As a result, four men were arrested and charged:

• Badr Ghassan Salim AL-SAFFAR, 28, is charged with four counts of breaching a release order, including cutting off his ankle monitor. He remains in custody.
   
• Brandon Laroy FORDHAM, 31, is charged with two counts of breaching a release order and has two warrants out for his arrest. 
   
• Jordan Tyler OLDFORD, 37, is charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000, three counts of uttering a forged document and possession of a stolen bank card, and three counts of breaching a release order. 
   
• Jeremy SAUVE, 41, is charged with eight weapons-related breaches of a release order, and one count each of fraud over $5,000, possession of a forged bank card, possession of a stolen bank card, uttering a forged document, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and possession of instruments of forgery.

AL-SAFFAR, OLDFORD and SAUVE are scheduled to next appear in court today, Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.

“Thanks to prompt action from the victim in reporting this incident to police and alerting her bank, we were able to investigate and quickly apprehend several individuals who have participated in bank and courier scams,” says Inspector Scott Neilson of the Calgary Police Service. “If someone contacts you claiming to be from your bank and asks for your PIN, bank card, cash or valuables to be picked up by a courier, it is a scam. Hang up, contact your bank directly and speak with a trusted family member or friend before taking any action. A few minutes of verification can prevent a significant financial loss.”

Sometime between Friday, June 13, and Sunday, June 15, 2026, an unknown person broke into a home located in the 4000 block of Vegas Way N.W., and stole 20 3D printers, along with printer accessories, worth more than $20,000.

Several days later, the victim of the theft saw many of the stolen items being sold online, identifiable by several unique markings.

He contacted police who began investigating.

On Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, we executed a search warrant at a home in the 4700 block of Dalton Drive N.W., and recovered 17 3D printers, as well as six spools of printer filament.  Photos of some of the recovered printers and accessories are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

As a result, Brent KUZMA, 41, of Calgary, is charged with:

·        One count of trafficking in stolen goods over $5,000

·        One count of possession of stolen property over $5,000

·        Two counts of failing to comply with release orders

“This is a good reminder that if you locate your stolen items online, to alert the police and don’t confront anyone yourself,” said Insp. Colleen Bowers, District 7, Calgary Police Service. “It’s also a reminder for buyers to authenticate the origin of items purchased online.”

KUZMA is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.

On Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, at approximately 10 p.m., police were called for multiple reports of a shooting in the 100 block of Carrington Boulevard N.W.

It was reported that at least two vehicles were involved in a shooting, resulting in one of the vehicles coming to a stop near 144 Avenue N.W. and Carrington Boulevard N.W.

Witnesses reported that the suspects then fled in an unknown vehicle.

Upon arrival to the scene, police located one victim, a 19-year-old man, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.

At this time, there are no suspects in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

While it is believed the shooting was a targeted incident, any act of violence in our city is deeply concerning and is taken very seriously. Targeted does not mean harmless and these incidents can and do put innocent people at risk.

On Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, the victim attended a residence in the 500 block of 40 Avenue N.W., where he allegedly consumed alcohol, drugs and a substance believed to be gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB).

Shortly after consuming the substance, the victim became ill and lost consciousness. When he awoke the following morning, he discovered his vehicle, keys and wallet were missing.

The victim later learned that more than $7,000 in unauthorized purchases had been made using his financial accounts through his cellphone. Investigators also determined that approximately $30,000 in fraudulent cheque deposits had been made.

Following an investigation by District 3, investigators identified two individuals who were allegedly involved in supplying drugs to the victim and had access to his property before it was stolen.

On Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, investigators arrested one suspect and executed a search warrant at the residence connected to the investigation.

As a result, Spencer Ryan STOLK, 37, has been charged with one count each of:

·         Possession of methamphetamine

·         Administering a noxious substance

·         Theft under $5,000

·         Fraud over $5,000

STOLK remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, a woman began receiving demands for money through WhatsApp text and voice messages. In the messages, the suspects used detailed knowledge of the victim’s personal and business affairs, including her full name, address, business information and information about her family members. The caller repeatedly attempted to contact the victim and made explicit threats of violence.

Approximately 12 hours later, just before 4:30 a.m., an unknown suspect fired a gun at the victim’s residence before fleeing in a vehicle.

After collecting physical and digital evidence, including CCTV footage from the area, investigators identified a suspect vehicle and several possible suspects.

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, a 17-year-old male was arrested for his involvement in facilitating the communication between the victim and those making threats. He was charged with one count of extortion and has since been released from custody. The youth cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

As the investigation continued, investigators arrested a woman on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, who allegedly provided personal information about the victim that enabled suspects to identify, locate and intimidate the victim and her family.

Kanureet KAUR, 23, of Chestermere, has been charged with one count of extortion. She has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026.

Investigators are also seeking public assistance to locate a third individual wanted on a warrant in relation to the possession of a stolen vehicle used during the shooting.

Tanveer SINGH, 21, of Calgary, is wanted on a warrant for possession of stolen property over $5,000. SINGH is described as 5’8” tall and approximately 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. A photo of SINGH is available below. 

Since this series began in April 2025, there have been 51 extortion-related incidents in Calgary. Nineteen shootings have been linked to the series, targeting both extortion victims and suspects. To date, 19 people have been charged with 59 offences in relation to the Calgary series.

The trial will assess the effectiveness of drones in improving situational awareness, supporting operational decision-making and enhancing public and officer safety.

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, two Skydio X10 drones will be deployed to select incidents in northeast and southeast Calgary. The drones will provide responding members with real-time aerial information to help them better understand unfolding incidents and determine the most appropriate response.

“The Drone as First Responder model has been successfully implemented by other police agencies and has shown potential to enhance emergency response,” says Supt. Jodi Gach of the Calgary Police Service Operational Support Division. “This trial will help us determine how the technology can support public safety in Calgary by providing responding officers with valuable information about an incident, often before they arrive on scene.”

The drones are deployed from a secure location in northeast Calgary. When an eligible call for service is identified, a sworn CPS member trained as a drone pilot can remotely deploy a drone to the scene. In some cases, the drone may arrive before responding officers, providing an early view of the incident that can help members identify risks, locate individuals and make informed operational decisions.

While we have used drones for several years to support public safety operations, including emergency incidents, searches and investigations, DFR introduces a new deployment model that allows drones to respond directly to select calls for service and provide information during the early stages of an incident.

The use of drones for the trial has been approved by Transport Canada. The trial will be conducted in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and CPS policies.

On Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a green, 2003 Ford F-150 was travelling east on the ramp from Crowchild Trail to southbound Stoney Trail, N.W.

The driver, a man in his 60s, appears to have lost control of the vehicle while negotiating the curve, resulting in it rolling over.

The truck came to rest, upside down, on the east side of the roadway.

The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in this collision. Excessive speed is being investigated as a possible factor.

On Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at approximately 12:10 p.m., a Calgary man was shopping with his family at a Safeway located at 2525 Woodview Drive S.W., when an unknown man approached the family, making political comments about Canadian and American tariffs.

The suspect became agitated and started shouting anti-Canadian and pro-American remarks and later threatened to retrieve a shotgun and shoot the other man.

After store staff intervened, the suspect approached the family a second time before being escorted out of the store.

Police identified the suspect based on witness reports and observed the suspect at a nearby residence in the 400 block of Woodside Road S.W., armed with a handgun. Officers heard a gunshot fired inside the residence, but no injures were reported and there were no additional occupants inside the residence.

At approximately 12:53 p.m., the suspect was arrested at the residence, and police executed a search warrant, seizing the following items:

• A .40-calibre pistol (unloaded)
• A loaded 12-guage shotgun
• A Glock replica BB gun
• Loaded magazines and ammunition

As a result, James Dean GARRIOCK, 49, is charged with:

• One count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to a person
• One count of possession of an unlicensed weapon
• One count of discharge of a firearm with intent while being reckless
• Two counts of careless storage of a firearm

GARRIOCK will next appear in court on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026.

“This was an extremely dangerous situation that could have turned out much worse than it did,” says Staff Sgt. Joe Hebert of the District 6 General Investigations Unit. “Situations like this can change quickly, and thanks to the witnesses, District 6 patrol members, the CPS Tactical Support Unit and other resources across the Service, we were able to quickly locate and safely apprehend the suspect before he further endangered the community.”
