Police investigate northwest assault

Three youths are in custody as police investigate an assault that was believed to have involved a firearm.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., today, Saturday, April 6, 2024, officers responded to reports of an assault at Market Mall, located at 3625 Shaganappi Trail N.W. It is believed the victim was attending the mall’s food court, when he was approached by three youths who proceeded to assault him. At the time of the assault, the victim believed the youths were in the possession of a firearm.

Responding officers located and challenged the three suspects at a nearby transit shelter. A cannister of bear spray was seized from one of the suspects. The three suspects, aged 14 to 15, are currently in police custody. There is no active threat to the public.
