Police investigate single-vehicle collision in south Calgary

We are investigating a single-vehicle collision that occurred this afternoon in south Calgary, putting one man in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 4:15 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 23, 2024, it is believed that a 2005 waste disposal truck, driven by a 50-year-old man, was travelling on the ramp from northbound Macleod Trail S.E. to Stoney Trail S.E., when the truck failed to negotiate the curve of the roadway. The truck crossed the shoulder onto the grassy median, before striking a light pole and then striking the supporting wall of the above bridge deck. The truck rolled and came to a rest on its roof.

The driver of the truck was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition.

Speed, drugs and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the collision.
