Update: Police investigate toddler death in southeast Calgary

We have taken one man into custody in relation to the death of a toddler that occurred in 2022.

At approximately 2:15 a.m., on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, we were called to a residence located in the 0 to 100 block of Bannister Manor S.E., for reports of a toddler in medical distress. The child was transported to hospital by EMS, however, life-saving attempts were unsuccessful and the two-year-old girl was declared deceased.

Following an extensive investigation by the Homicide Unit and an autopsy completed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the death was deemed a homicide and the victim has been identified as Olivia HAYDEN of Calgary.

Earlier today, Wednesday, April 17, 2024, one man was arrested and taken into custody in relation to this incident.

Manslaughter charges are pending. After the man has been formally charged his name will be publicly released. The accused and Olivia were known to one another, and this was not a random incident.
