Police seek public assistance to identify assault suspect

UPDATE: It is now believed that while the suspect's dog showed aggression towards the victim's dog, it did not physically attack. Thank you to everyone who has provided information and tips relating to this incident so far.

Original release:

We are asking the public for their help in identifying an unknown man who is believed to be responsible for assaulting a woman at a southeast park earlier this week.

On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a woman was walking her dog near the north end of Sue Higgins Park, in the area of 9770 15th St. S.E. At the same time, a dog belonging to an unknown man who was also at the park, allegedly attacked the woman’s dog.

It is believed the man and woman began to argue, and the woman attempted to record the verbal interaction on her cellphone when the man knocked the phone out of her hand before pushing her to the ground and physically assaulted her. The woman screamed, and the man picked up her cellphone off of the ground and threw it over a fence before fleeing in an unknown direction.

The victim sought medical attention for her injuries and reported the incident to police the following day.

The suspect is described as having a light complexion, approximately 50 years old, approximately 5’8’’ to 6’ tall, with a slim build and short black and grey hair. He was last seen wearing sunglasses, a baseball cap, brown khaki pants and grey runners.

Police do not have a photo of the suspect but are releasing a photo of the suspect’s dog in hopes of identifying the man.
