Police continue to investigate serious-injury collision

Our Traffic Unit continues to investigate after a two-vehicle collision resulted in a man sustaining life-threatening injuries yesterday.

At approximately 1:40 p.m., on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, a 2012 Hyundai Veloster operated by a 29-year-old man, was travelling westbound on 61 Avenue S.E. towards the intersection at 84 Street S.E. It is believed the Hyundai was travelling at a high rate of speed.

At the same time, a semi-truck operated by a 44-year-old man was travelling eastbound on 61 Avenue S.E. towards 84 Street. S.E.

It is believed the driver of the Hyundai lost control of the vehicle, crossed over the centre line and into the path of the semi-truck, resulting in a head-on collision.

The driver of the Hyundai was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and was not injured.

Speed is being investigated as a factor in this collision.
