Seeking public assistance to identify shooting suspects
The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance to identify two men believed to be connected to a shooting that occurred on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014.
At approximately 6 p.m., officers responded to a call of a male suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. The man, in his 60s, was transported to hospital in critical condition. He has since been released from the hospital.
Detectives have spoken to a number of witnesses and examined CCTV footage from the area. It is believed that two masked men entered the Dahab Exchange located at 5012, 17 Ave. S.E., and demanded money. During the robbery, a firearm was discharged and the business owner was shot. Both offenders left the premise and fled on foot.
The first man is described as being dark-skinned, approximately 6’ tall and having a slim build. He was wearing a red hoodie with the hood pulled over his head, black material covering his face from the nose down, dark jeans with a logo tag above the right rear pocket, dark shoes and black gloves.
The second man is described as being dark-skinned, approximately 5’10” to 6’ tall and having a medium build. He was wearing a dark three-quarter length jacket, a dark grey shirt, possibly a dark ski mask, blue faded jeans, silver and dark running shoes and black gloves.

Through the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) program within the Service, members frequently work with business owners to provide recommendations and make improvements to ensure the safety and security of businesses. The following CPTED recommendations should be considered by any business that regularly handles large amounts of money, including financial institutions and money exchanges:
- Enhance the strength and security of all doors to the business, including back doors. Wood or residential doors are not recommended.
- Physically separate customer and employee activities.
- Money should be stored in a safe that is out of view of the customers.
- Businesses should be well-lit, especially inside and outside all entrance ways. Also ensure that front windows and doors are unobstructed when possible so that neighbours and the passing public can see what is going on.
- Consider the positioning of security cameras in relation to the layout of the business and ensure that CCTV footage is always being recorded.
