The City of Calgary to close Midfield Mobile Home Park in 2017

Calgary, AB – The City of Calgary has announced that it will close Midfield Mobile Home Park (Midfield) effective September 30, 2017. The water and sewer lines at Midfield are over 40 years old and have long reached the end of their life cycle.

Tenants at the park - which is located at 954 16 Ave. N.E. - were notified of the closure by letter.

“City Council weighed all the facts very carefully before making this difficult decision,” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “Now that the final decision has been made, tenants know that they have three years to find other accommodation and that they will be given a package to help ease the transition. We know it’s never easy to go through change like this, but we will make sure that The City provides the services and support tenants need.”

The City of Calgary has offered to all residents of Midfield access to counselling services provided by Homewood Human Solutions. In addition, The City has offered to eligible Midfield tenants up to a maximum of $10,000 towards the actual costs incurred to move their mobile home and an additional lump sum payment of $10,000. 

The City also informed tenants at Midfield that council has decided not to build a new mobile home park at 800 84 St. N.E., known as East Hills Estates. Further review of the East Hills Estates project led Council to decide that the project was no longer financially viable.

Midfield Mobile Home Park was developed by Richfield Development Corporation in 1968 on land leased from The City. In 1973, Richfield turned over the operation of the park to The City of Calgary. Since 2001, the park has been managed by Calgary Housing Company. Midfield consists of 173 mobile homes.
