Calgary Bid Exploration Committee releases survey results

CBEC reveals themes and results from its formal quantitative public consultation survey

Today, the Calgary Bid Exploration Committee (CBEC) is releasing the results of a formal quantitative survey that was launched in an effort to understand public opinions surrounding a potential 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (OPWG) bid. Almost 2,000 respondents from Calgary, Canmore, Banff and Cochrane were surveyed via telephone and online, and asked a series of questions about a potential 2026 OPWG bid.

“There is tremendous value in not only gathering, but truly understanding, the opinions of Calgarians and area residents. As a Committee, we are invested in putting Calgary’s vision first. This means looking into every opportunity and concern identified by citizens during the bid exploration process,” said Rick Hanson, Chair of the Calgary Bid Exploration Committee.

The research was conducted by Stone-Olafson, CBEC’s official research partner for the feasibility study. Live interviewers used Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) technologies as well as an online platform to conduct the surveys and collect data between March 6-19, 2017.

CBEC will continue to analyze these results, along with results of other research initiatives as it prepares to present its final recommendation to Calgary City Council on July 24, 2017. All of CBEC’s research will be shared in its final report. For more updates from CBEC, please visit www.shouldcalgarybid.com/updates

Calgary Bid Exploration Committee:

On September 19, 2016 the Calgary Bid Exploration Committee (CBEC) was formed as a partnership between The City of Calgary and Tourism Calgary. Its mandate is to conduct an objective, balanced, comprehensive feasibility assessment on whether or not The City of Calgary can reasonably host the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (OPWG) and; if so, whether it is reasonable and prudent that Calgary should submit a bid to the International Olympic Committee to host the Games and, if so, subject to what conditions.
