Prairie Winds Park grand re-opening event

Calgarians are invited today to join the City of Calgary, Mayor Naheed Nenshi, and Councillor Jones at the official grand re-opening of Prairie Winds Park, a regional park for all Calgarians. Everyone can come enjoy new park features, food trucks, refreshments, music, speeches, ribbon cutting and guided public art walks.

“Prairie Winds Park has always been an important public space, but the improvements we’ve made will make it a true gem that serves the recreation needs of our diverse community,” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “All Calgarians will find something to love about the new Prairie Winds Park.”

Priarie Winds is of the most popular and well-used parks in the city and, through citizen engagement, has now been transformed to better reflect the diverse needs of surrounding communities. Children can now enjoy a unique playscape, complete with a zipline, running bowl, concrete wave and half court. Citizens can also dine in the new larger barbeque areas, complete with picnic shelters and a tandoori oven. Fitness options have been added, including a cricket pitch, tennis and basketball courts and fitness stations. A wading pool and lazy river are expected to open as part of the improved water recreation area in June.

Seed Pod, a new functional art installation, was developed through The City’s Public Art Program and provides a natural gathering area at the top of the toboggan hill.

Park-goers are reminded some areas of the park are still being developed and will remain fenced for safety.
