Update: State of Local Emergency

The City of Calgary remains in a state of local emergency while recovery and clean-up efforts continue.

Mud, Solid and Slurry Clean-up

Citizens and business owners are reminded that mud, solid and slurry waste from basements, underground parking facilities and other buildings is NOT to be dumped into our river systems. This waste material could contain contaminants.

The City of Calgary has provided two emergency dumping facilities for this waste disposal:

Spring Gardens – 1025, 32 Avenue, N.E.
Highfield/Bonnybrook – 1442 46 Avenue S.E.

Non-hazardous solids may be taken to any of The City of Calgary landfills.

Discharge and dumping of mud, solids and slurry waste are regulated by Alberta Environment and the Department of Fisheries. All incidents of improper dumping will be investigated.

Chinatown Community Support Centre closing at 12 noon

The Community Support Centre in Chinatown/Eau Claire at the Sing Tao Daily Newspaper, 116 3 Avenue SE, is closing Sunday, June 30 at 12 noon. There are five remaining Community Support Centres open from 8 am to 10 pm daily.

Province of Alberta Flood Recovery Funding

The Government of Alberta has committed $1 billion as immediate support for Alberta families for the first phase of emergency recovery and reconstruction. This Provincial funding is distributed through two separate programs: pre-loaded debit cards and the Disaster Recovery Program.

Eastbound Memorial Drive open one lane between 10 Street NW to Edmonton Trail NE.

Boating Restricted on Bow & Elbow

As public safety remains a key priority, all boating/rafting/kayaking and other water sports on both the Bow and Elbow Rivers continues to be restricted at this time. Please stay away from river banks and our rivers until further notice for your safety.

Volunteer Transportation Hub at Mount Royal University

At this time, three heavily affected areas including Erlton, Elbow Park and Mission are still experiencing considerable cleanup efforts. With the extra traffic in the community, citizens, as well as City workers and vehicles, are unable to access community roads.

To help keep roadways accessible for cleanup efforts, the City has implemented a volunteer transportation hub to minimize traffic in affected communities. On Sunday, June 30, volunteers are asked to go to Mount Royal University to park their vehicles and be transported to affected communities.

Volunteers that utilize this transportation hub will greatly assist community volunteers in keeping roadways accessible to crucially needed cleanup crews.

Volunteer Transportation Hub location and information:

Mount Royal University: 4825 Mount Royal Gate SW.
Volunteer parking is in lot numbers 3 and 4; the spill over lot number is 5.
Buses will be taking volunteers to three Community Support Centres between the hours of 8 am to 11 am. There, volunteers will be given personal protective equipment and then sent throughout Erlton, Elbow Park and Mission to help citizens with their clean-up.
Volunteers will be bussed out between the hours of 2 pm to 6 pm back to Mount Royal University.

We ask any other citizen volunteers to please walk or bike to these communities to offer assistance, and leave your car at home or in an unaffected community.

Reception Centres

Reception centres can provide food and access to specialized services as well as arrange accommodation for people still displaced as a result of recent flooding.

Displaced residents must register at Centre Street Church (3900 2 St NE) to access reception centre services.

Water

Effective midnight (12 a.m., Sunday, June 30) The City of Calgary lifted outdoor water use restrictions for all customers, including Airdrie, Chestermere and Strathmore.
