Water main repairs impacting traffic on 14th Street S.W. - Boil Water Advisory still in effect.

On Friday, October 16, City crews began repairs on a water main that supports the community of Eagle Ridge and Heritage Park. During the repairs, they experienced an unanticipated depressurization of the pipe and could not guarantee the water quality.

As a precaution, Alberta Health Services ordered a Boil Water Advisory. This issue is not related to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main, nor is it impacting Rockyview General Hospital.

To complete repairs, two northbound and two southbound lanes on 14th Street S.W. between 75 Avenue S.W. and Heritage Drive. S.W. will be closed until further notice, leaving one lane open in each direction. Depending on the condition of the pipe we may need to adjust the lane closures to complete the repair. This is a challenging repair and will take some time to complete.  Significant traffic delays are likely. Please use alternative routes if possible and follow all signage and detours.

All residents within the affected area are advised to bring all tap water to a rolling boil for one full minute prior to any consumption, including:

  • Drinking, including coffee and tea
  • Cooking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Cleaning raw foods
  • Preparing infant formula or juices
  • Making ice, etc.

In-home water filters are not sufficient and water in them must still be boiled before use.

You may instead choose to purchase bottled water for consumption for the duration of this advisory. Water wagons are being provided, and their location will be available on calgary.ca/boilwater.

When cleaning:

If you are not using a dishwasher, water used for cleaning surfaces or dishes should be boiled.

Water used for bathing and laundry does not require boiling.

For businesses:

Food Service Establishments, Care Providers and Personal Service facilities should contact Environmental Public Health at 1-833-476-4743 for direction.

This advisory will remain in effect until further notice. Affected residents will be contacted directly when the advisory is lifted and updates will be available on calgary.ca/boilwater.

The City of Calgary is working closely with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas and Alberta Health Services to resolve the water quality concerns.
