Calgary Conversations podcast: Honouring sacrifice on Remembrance Day

CALGARY – As Calgarians prepare to honour our veterans, the Calgary Conversations podcast sits down with serving and former Armed Forces members to discuss the importance of Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made by those who serve and their families.

Like so many Calgary businesses, the City of Calgary is proud to employ veterans and reservists. For this episode, we sit down with three City staff members to discuss their connection to the Canadian military and how the lessons learned in service of our country have translated into municipal public service.

Iain Bushell, Director of Emergency Management and Community Safety and a former member of the Royal Canadian Air Force for more than a decade, recounts the foundational leadership skills he learned in the Air Force and how it serves him in his role today.

Mitch Walz, Associate Assessor at the City and an Infantry Officer the Calgary Highlanders Reserve Regiment, speaks about the often-forgotten sacrifices made by families of reservists and military members.

Vladimir Batinic, a Team Lead with Technical Security, speaks about the importance of remembering those that came before and those who are currently making commitments to our nation.

The three sit down for an emotional and honest look at the camaraderie of service and the importance of remembering those who served and came home, those who served and came home different, and those who didn’t come back home at all.
