Two more open houses to share information on flood preparations and flood recovery

The City of Calgary is hosting two additional sessions to provide informaion on what The City is doing and what people can do to prepare for the potential of flooding this year.

The first open house will be Wednesday, May 7, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Ramsay Community Association hall, 1136 8 St. SE.

The second open house will be held Thursday, May 15, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Foothills Academy, 745 37 St. N.W.

Staff from a number of business units including the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), Calgary Fire Department, Development & Building Approvals, Water Service and Water Resources, Finance & Supply, Community & Neighbourhhood Services and the Flood Recovery Operations Centre will be on hand to share information and answer questions. Representatives from The City’s Expert Management Panel on River Flood Mitigation and the Government of Alberta will also be available.

The sessions will be drop-in style with no formal presentations. That way, residents can drop in at their convenience, explore information tables and speak with staff in their areas of interest.

More than 1,200 Calgarians have already attended four open houses hosted by The City and Province in March and April.

Calgarians are encouraged to visit www.calgary.ca/floodprep for ongoing update and information on what The City is doing and what people can do to be prepared. Information on river flows and watershed monitoring will also be available on that website once river monitoring ramps up in mid-May.
