The City requires additional Census Takers

Earlier this year, The City began recruiting temporary, part-time Census Takers to collect yearly Census information. Applicant response has been slow prompting the application deadline to be extended to February 21, 2014. While The City has filled approximately 600 positions, we are still short about 350-400 Census Takers to go door-to-door to collect Census information from households.

This short-term job is excellent for people who want to work part-time, those who are between jobs or anyone who wants to earn extra money while performing an important service for their community. Payment is based upon census district size, number of dwellings and how many questions are asked. Census Takers could make between $400 and $600 for the short-term work. 

In order to apply to be a Census taker you must be:

  • 18 years of age or over.
  • available to conduct Census collection in the first three weeks of April.
  • able to walk in seasonable weather conditions.
  • available to attend a two hour daytime training session in March.
  • able to operate a tablet computer.

If you would like to be a part of the Census team that collects this valuable information, apply in person at The City of Calgary, Election and Information Services office at 1103 55th Avenue NE, Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Application forms are available online at Calgary.ca/Census and can be downloaded and brought with you when you come to apply in person.  In addition to the application form a skills assessment is completed in person at the time of application. 

Applicants are being placed as they apply.

Starting April 1, Census Takers go door-to-door visiting all homes in their assigned area to collect Census information. Assigned census areas vary in size, but are generally between 400 to 600 dwellings. Census Takers set their own schedule to complete their assigned area and may be required to work in the evenings and on weekends when most people are at home. In general, the data collection takes about three weeks.
