State of local emergency update: More communities cleared for re-entry
The City of Calgary remains in a state of local emergency due to significant flooding.
In the interest of moving residents back into their homes as quickly as possible, many mandatory evacuations are being lifted today. Residents are asked to return to their communities AFTER 1:00 pm today.
All Calgarians may return home except for all or portions of the following communities which are still under a mandatory evacuation:
- Roxboro
- Inglewood
- Bowness
- Bridgeland
- Chinatown
- East Village
- Elbow Park
- Rideau
- Erlton
- Mission
- Stanley Park / Elboya
- Parts of Downtown
- Roxboro
- Inglewood
- Bowness
- Bridgeland
- Chinatown
- East Village
- Elbow Park
- Rideau
- Erlton
- Mission
- Stanley Park / Elboya
- Parts of Downtown
It is unknown at this time when the remaining mandatory evacuations may be lifted.
A map has been posted to Calgary.ca identifying areas where residents have been approved to return home to conduct self-assessment (identified in yellow). Areas identified in red are still under mandatory evacuation. Please note that assessment of multi-family units (e.g. apartment complexes and condos) must be completed by the building owner or building superintendent. Individual occupants of multi-family units should confirm assessment has been completed and approved with their building contact.

Approximately 65,000 displaced Calgarians will have returned to their homes once the communities above are completed.
“We have a large population of displaced citizens right now who desperately want to be home,” says Bruce Burrell, Director of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency. “While we are working as quickly as possible to assess evacuated communities, it simply isn’t fast enough. Accordingly, we have changed the process to expedite the return of evacuees to their homes by asking residents for their assistance in assessment and evaluation.”
Re-entry information centres are being established for residents who have been approved to safely return home at the following locations:

Residents are asked to visit one of the re-entry information centres PRIOR to accessing their residence for important information that will support them in self-assessing their home and provide guidance on next steps.
Once check-in and re-entry information has been received from one of the centres, residents may proceed to their residence.
If the road and sidewalk to home is dry, residents may proceed to enter their home.
If there is no flood water visible upon entry, residents are asked to inspect their basement for water.
If there is water in the basement above electrical outlets, leave your home immediately and advise your community re-entry information centre. If there is no water in the basement or if water is below electrical outlets, residents may proceed with their self-assessment as directed by re-entry information centres.
Self-assessment will include identification of critical services still required. If a need is identified, residents should post an 8.5” x 11” notice in their window with bold writing identifying the need. One piece of paper should be used per item. Writing should be bold so that it can be clearly seen from the street. Critical needs include:

- Water Pumping Needed

Building owners will be provided more information specific to assessment process for multi-family units later today.
Please be advised that needs may vary from house to house. City staff will address needs identified as quickly as possible but ask the public for their patience in coming days as work on full restoration proceeds.
City staff and other resources as required will be available in communities to support residents with questions.
