More details released on Ralph Klein public celebration of life
On Friday, April 5th, a Celebration of Life to honour former Premier & former Mayor Ralph Klein will take place beginning at noon at the Epcor Centre’s Jack Singer Concert Hall. This event will be hosted by The City of Calgary at the request of the Klein family and will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
On Friday beginning at 9 a.m., general seating cards will be distributed to those in line outside the Jack Singer Concert Hall main entrance. Overflow seating will be available for those individuals who are not able to be seated inside the Jack Singer Concert Hall. The doors to the venue will open at 10:30 a.m. and the public must be fully seated by 11:15 a.m.
The Celebration of Life will also be broadcast live on local television stations for those wishing to view the service at home.
The funeral procession will make two public stops on its way to the Jack Singer event. The procession will stop at McDougall Centre at 11:15 a.m., where the Klein family will attend a short presentation from the Alberta Government and carry on to Municipal Plaza for another brief presentation from The City of Calgary at 11:25 a.m.. Screens will be available at Municipal Plaza for anyone wishing to remain and watch the Celebration of Life broadcast.
Rolling road closures will be in effect on 5th Avenue throughout the morning as the funeral procession makes its way to the venue. Traffic stoppage should be short in duration and traffic will be facilitated by the Calgary Police Service to ensure as little disruption as possible.
Additionally, Macleod Trail will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. between 6th and 9th Avenues to accommodate the events at Municipal Plaza and the Jack Singer Concert Hall. The City asks that citizens plan alternate routes and for patience during any brief delays to traffic.
Further details about these events, the motorcade route and the public Celebration of Life will be available on www.calgary.ca. Event information will be updated as it becomes available.
A technical briefing on Friday’s events will be held Thursday for members of the media. A media advisory will be issued shortly with details on how to participate.
