Early Morning Fire Destroys 2 Garages in Coventry Hills

Shortly before 3:30 this morning the Calgary Fire Department was called to the 200 block of Covepark Way NE for reports of a garage fire.  Arriving fire crews found two neighbouring garages fully engulfed in flames with the intense heat, created by the fire, threatened nearby homes.  Firefighters called for additional resources while initially focusing on evacuating and protecting the exposed residences.  Utilizing large volume hose lines firefighters were able to bring the fire under control minimizing the damage to the exposed structures.  In the end, two garages were totally destroyed, one home suffered moderate damage, and another four houses sustained minor damage. There were no reports of injury.  Investigators are currently on scene.  Traffic in the area is unaffected at this time.
