City appoints new auditor

The City of Calgary announced today that it has appointed Kathy Palmer as its City Auditor.

Effective July 2, Ms. Palmer will begin leading The City Auditor’s Office team. Ms. Palmer will be relocating from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where she has served as Vice President, Risk & Internal Audit of Cameco Corp., one of the world’s largest uranium producers.

“With over 20 years of multi-industry internal audit and risk management experience, Kathy Palmer was the ideal choice to lead the City Auditor’s Office,” said Gael Macleod, Chair of the Audit Committee. “We are confident she will make great contributions in her new role.”

Palmer was selected from a large field of highly qualified candidates from across Canada and within The City of Calgary. She replaces Todd Horbasenko who left for personal reasons earlier this month.

“I am excited to be the new City Auditor, and to build upon the success achieved by my predecessor, Todd Horbasenko. I have a passion for auditing, and I am committed to supporting positive change and efficiencies for the City of Calgary.”

The City Auditor is a designated officer appointed by Council and is responsible for assisting Council in its oversight of the City Manager’s Administration, accountability for stewardship over public funds and for the achievement of value for money in City operations.
