We're prepared. Are you? Learn about emergency preparedness this weekend at Disaster Alley

Calgarians are invited to learn about the importance of preparing for an emergency at the fourth annual Disaster Alley this Sunday at McMahon Stadium.

 

The event, hosted by the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), is an opportunity for Calgarians to see how first responders and partner agencies prepare for and respond to emergencies and disasters. It’s a great opportunity to learn how to personally prepare for emergencies and disasters as well.

 

“Emergency events can occur quickly and preparing yourself is key to protecting you and your loved ones,” said Len MacCharles, Deputy Chief of CEMA. “We are pleased to be able to provide an educational and interactive forum where Calgarians can learn these important life skills.”

 

This free, family-friendly event includes interactive displays, demonstrations and exhibits from first and other responders, including:

Donna Kennedy-Glans, MLA Calgary-Varsity and Mayor Naheed Nenshi will provide welcoming remarks at noon. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the east parking lot at McMahon Stadium (1817 Crowchild Trail N.W) and will also feature some of Calgary’s favorite food trucks.  Taking public transit to the Banff Trail C-Train station is recommended.

 

CEMA works with other City departments, corporations, communities and non-profit agencies to facilitate a coordinated response to and recovery from emergencies and disasters. CEMA also works to increase our capacity to be prepared, become less vulnerable, and recover more quickly from a disaster, leading to a stronger, more resilient community.
