Update in charges laid against dog owner

The two dogs have been seized and are in the custody of Animal & Bylaw Services where they will undergo a behavioural assessment.

Animal & Bylaw Services has laid five charges against the owner of two dogs that aggressively attacked and injured another dog on August 8 in Coach Hill.

The charges include one count of animal at large, two counts of damage to an animal, and two counts of having an unlicensed animal. More charges may be laid pending completion of the investigation.

“Animal & Bylaw Services makes public safety a top priority and aggressive animal behaviour will not be tolerated,” said Damian Cole, Manager of South Operations.

“Under the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw, owners are held responsible for the behaviour of their animals and people must be aware of these responsibilities when looking to add a dog of any breed to their family.”

The attack occurred in front of the victim’s home. Extensive veterinary care was required to repair multiple bite wounds inflicted on the dog during the attack.

Citizens who witness an animal acting aggressively or running at large are encouraged to call 3-1-1. If there is imminent public risk or injuries are involved, call 9-1-1.

Owners of aggressive dogs are strongly encouraged to contact the Calgary Humane Society or a certified dog trainer to help resolve aggression issues.
