State of Local Emergency extended

Under the recommendation of the Director of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) and the direction of Mayor Naheed Nenshi, a State of Local Emergency (SOLE) will be extended for seven days.

The SOLE was declared at 10:16 a.m., June 20, 2013 and will remain effective through, Thursday, July 4, 2013.

Director of CEMA, Bruce Burrell says the SOLE extension is a necessary measure, critical to flood disaster recovery efforts.

“Provincial legislation and bylaw amendments under a SOLE allow us immediate access to resources and an expedited approval process needed to help those affected.”

While the SOLE remains in effect, citizens are reminded to:

Avoid travel to the downtown and other evacuation zones not yet cleared for re-entry.
Conserve water use.
Visit Calgary.ca or contact 311 for flood related information and enquiries.
