Shaganappi Trail pedestrian overpass project update

Calgary, AB – March 10, 2015         For immediate release

Director of Transportation Infrastructure Michael Thompson provided an update this morning on site regarding the construction progress of the Shaganappi Trail Pedestrian Overpass project.  The delay in erection was due to two interior steel beams that required shifting to fit in place with the pre-built concrete ramps.  A diagram with the modifications required to complete the work has been provided. This has now been resolved and construction will continue on schedule.   Anticipated opening for the bridge will be May 2015.

Dates and times have been scheduled to close Shaganappi Trail N.W. to complete work on the main span of the bridge.  Lifting of the steel arch is scheduled for weekend one.  Placement of concrete panels on the main span is scheduled for weekend two.  Both of these activities are dependent on wind speeds being below 25 km/hr.

During this installation, Shaganappi Trail between Crowchild Trail and Northland Dr. / Dalhousie Dr. will be temporarily closed during off peak hours.  Variable message boards will be placed in several nearby locations to notify motorists in advance of the closure and detour routes.
