Serious Traffic Collision Update

At approximately 3:06 a.m. on Saturday June 28, 2014 a white Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by a 20 yr old male, was travelling southbound on Macleod Trail S approaching the intersection with 71 Ave S in the median lane. At this time a 22 yr old male pedestrian, was attempting to cross Macleod trail S on the south crosswalk from east to west.

The Mitsubishi driver applied the brakes while approaching the intersection and began to change lanes.  As the Mitsubishi passed through the  crosswalk he struck the pedestrian.

Witness evidence from the scene indicates that the driver was proceeding on a green light.

Speed is being investigated as a factor in this collision.

Alcohol consumption by the pedestrian is a factor in this collision.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating the collision. Any witnesses to the collision or the events leading up to it are asked to contact the Traffic Section at 403-567-4000.
