September storm update: Safety considerations and update on public facilities

As a result of last week’s storm and related tree debris, some City of Calgary facilities remain closed or partially closed.

  • Citizens are reminded to stay away from all parks and public spaces with mature trees. We’re asking Calgarians to use caution, know the hazards, look up, but best of all we recommend avoiding these spaces to allow workers to safely continue to assess hazards and clear debris.
  • While all schools are open, we would caution all users of public outdoor space to be aware of risks and exercise caution this week around damaged trees.
  • All City of Calgary Golf courses remain closed, with the exception of McCall Lake. Please refer to our online Recreation Facility Status tool for the status of other City facilities including Athletic Parks.

The City thanks Calgarians for their patience and reminds citizens that landfills will remain open extended hours this week to accommodate debris drop-off and will waive tree-related disposal fees. Additionally, the Leaf & Pumpkin drop-off locations will accept tree debris – please check Calgary.ca for locations.
