Senior’s garage destroyed in NW fire

Shortly after 11;30 this  morning the Calgary fire Department was called to a residence on the 2500 block of Cochran Road NW for reports of a garage fire. When fire crews arrived they found a double detached garage, at the rear of the property, fully engulfed in flames.  Due to the volume of fire and the close proximity to neighboring homes, additional fire resources were requested.  Firefighters accessed the garage from the alley, deployed large volume hose streams, and quickly extinguished the fire. 2 vehicles, which were inside the garage at the time of the fire, were totally destroyed. Radiant heat from the fire melted the vinyl siding of the adjacent house but, after a thorough investigation, fire crews found no signs of fire inside or outside the home. The resident of the home, a man in his eighties, was uninjured in the blaze.  Fire investigators are involved. Traffic in the area in unaffected at this time.
