Select recreation services set to begin reopening

The City of Calgary is preparing to reopen four recreation centres around the city that were closed as a precautionary response to the recent flooding of the Bow and Elbow rivers. The following facilities will reopen on Sunday, June 23, 2013:
  • Thornhill Aquatic & Recreation Centre – 6715 Centre Street N.W.
  • Killarney Aquatic & Recreation Centre – 1919 29 Street S.W.
  • Canyon Meadows Aquatic & Fitness Centre – 89 Canova Road S.W.
  • Bob Bahan Aquatic & Fitness Centre – 4812 14 Avenue S.E.

These four facilities will operate with the following schedules:
  • 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. public swim
  • 11:30 a.m.  to 1:30 p.m. adult lengths
  • 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. public swim

All of the facilities will have admission rates of $1 for kids and $2 for adults. There is a potential that, due to a network outage, point-of-sale pass scanners and credit card machines will not be working. Facility clients should be sure to bring cash or change to ensure they can access the facilities.

Additional recreation facilities may be opened as the response to the flooding event progresses. Updates will be made available on calgary.ca, The City of Calgary’s blog, Calgary City News, on The City of Calgary Newsroom, and through The City of Calgary social media channels on Facebook and on Twitter: @cityofcalgary.

The City of Calgary is working to reopen other arenas and athletic parks, recreation centres and art centres as quickly as possible and would like to thank all Calgarians for their support and patience.
