Richmond Green opens Mother's Day with free golf

This Sunday, May 11th, The City is offering free golf for the whole family at Richmond Green Golf Course to celebrate both the course opening and Mother’s Day.

“As a favourite course for families, we are excited that Richmond Green will open all nine holes this Sunday,” says April Tanner, marketing advisor with Golf Course Operations. “As a par three course with affordable rates it is great for beginners, and to celebrate Mom there will be free golf for the whole family".

When checking in at the Clubhouse on Mother’s Day, The City encourages golfers to make a donation to the Kids on Course Junior/Family Subsidy program. This program helps low-income kids try out a game that gets them outdoors while helping them learn valuable life skills such as patience, honour and integrity that are a big part of golf.

Originally started as a local volunteer program with 40 kids participating, fundraising has made it possible for participation to grow to over 500 kids in 2013. In addition, Kids on Course offers free programs and golf outings to schools and local organizations like Big Brothers and Sisters and Boys and Girls Clubs.

“This program has helped put a smile on so many kids and given them a chance to get out and enjoy a new sport,” says Tanner. “As families get out and enjoy a free golf game we hope they will pay it forward by making a donation to the Kids on Course program.”

Located in Calgary’s southwest, Richmond Green Golf Course is an easy to play nine-hole par three course suited to the beginner player, or for the expert players wanting to improve their short game.
